Hollie Thacker
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Scheurer Health
Hollie Thacker is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Scheurer Health, a rural critical access hospital in Pigeon, Michigan. She obtained her Master of Science in Anesthesia from WSU Applebaum in 2020. Her career in Nursing started when she graduated from Henry Ford Community College with her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing in 2010. She worked at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital on the Medical-Surgical Unit while obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University. In 2012 she transferred to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and obtained the experience required to enter anesthesia training. During her time in the Nurse Anesthesia program at Wayne State, most of her clinicals were at a Detroit Medical Center facility, including Harper University Hospital. When she graduated in 2020, she transitioned to practicing as a CRNA at Harper. There she encountered high acuity patients and gained a strong foundation of anesthesia practice from the seasoned CRNA and physician anesthesiologist staff who mentored her.
Hollie first encountered rural anesthesia as a student nurse anesthetist during her clinical site rotation to Scheurer Health in March 2020. She enjoyed the autonomy, sense of community and ability to provide health care to a population that would otherwise face finding care close to home difficult. While working at Harper, a full-time position came available at Scheurer. She seized the opportunity and has been practicing independent anesthesia at the rural critical access hospital full-time since May 2022. She quickly became the Clinical Site Coordinator for Oakland University and Wayne State University nurse anesthesia students. In April 2024, she became the Anesthesia Manager and is currently involved in expanding the operating room and anesthesia department. She was featured in Scheurer Magazine 2024.
