Kristie Sherman Kava

Kristie Sherman Kava, PT, MS, DScPT, OMPT, is a physical therapist and founder of a private practice that provided quality orthopedic physical therapy patient care for over 40 years.
Dr. Kava is a graduate of the WSU Applebaum Physical Therapy program and also received a master's in allied health education with a specialty in orthopedic physical therapy from the University of Kentucky. She was one of the first to achieve advanced Certification in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy from the International Seminar at Oakland University. In pursuit of post-graduate education, she returned to Oakland University and received a Doctorate of Science in Physical Therapy. Her doctoral research investigated the effects of exercise on instrumental musician injuries. Dr. Kava is a STOTT Pilates and Rehabilitative STOTT Pilates Instructor, a certified GYROTONIC® and a certified GYROKINESIS® instructor.
Dr. Kava has worked in performing arts medicine for many years in the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of performance injuries. She is a member of the Performing Arts Medicine Association and has presented her research both nationally and internationally. She served on the Musician Wellness Team at Michigan State University for many years and continues to serve on the WSU Applebaum Board of Visitors.
