Zhongcong Xie

Henry Knowles Beecher Professor of Anesthesia – Harvard University and Physician-Anesthesiologist – Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Zhongcong Xie (“Z”) graduated from Xuzhou Medical University in China in 1985. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology in 1994 from the WSU Applebaum Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In the same year, he moved to Harvard Medical School in Boston as a post-doctoral research fellow, focusing on clinical investigations and animal behavioral research. In 1997, Dr. Xie returned to clinical practice as an anesthesiology resident at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Upon completing his residency, he pursued a dual career as a physician-scientist, continuing his neuroscience research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Xie currently holds the position of Henry Knowles Beecher Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard University and serves as a physician-anesthesiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Additionally, he is the Director of Basic Science Research and the Director of the Geriatric Anesthesia Research Unit in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Xie is also the President-elect and incoming President of the Association of University Anesthesiologists.
