The Wayne State University chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) will be holding an online informational seminar on the annual Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan managed care summer internships. The webinar is set to take place via Zoom next Tuesday, February 28, from 5-6 p.m.

"I joined AMCP because I wanted to learn more about what managed care pharmacy has to offer," said Farzana Pinky, who co-directs the WSU AMCP professional education initiatives together with Niharika Thota. "We are very excited to share managed care information and opportunities with our fellow pharmacists through seminars like these."

The AMCP webinar will feature guest speaker Dr. Kim Moon, who manages the Medication Therapy Management Team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). Moon is also the residency program director of the only Medicare-specific PGY-1 managed care residency in the U.S. and supervises pharmacy interns in a managed care pharmacy setting.

"Our Wayne State chapter is happy to have Dr. Moon speak at our AMCP webinar. She has been a great mentor to many and an invaluable resource when it comes to learning about managed care pharmacy," said WSU AMCP President-Elect Johnie Bailey, who is one of the select student pharmacists chosen to participate in BCBSM's summer internship program. "This informational webinar is a great opportunity for P1s and P2s to learn about managed care and see if this internship is something they might want to pursue. The practice of managed care pharmacy applies clinical and scientific evidence to support the appropriate use of medications to enhance patient and population health outcomes while optimizing use of limited health care resources."
