Application deadline nears for BOV first $7,500 scholarship
The Board of Visitors (BOV) of the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS) has established an Annual Scholarship, which is being initiated this spring with an award of $7,500.
"Many talented young people dream of attending college, but decreased state support for higher education paired with the rising tuition costs are creating a challenge for the next generation," said Carlos Oritz, chair for the BOV Annual Scholarship program. "In response to these realities, the Board has established the scholarship fund to provide tuition assistance to at least one of our students this year."
Who is eligible?
Eligible to apply for the BOV Scholarship are full-time EACPHS students with a minimum academic excellence (GPA) of 3.5 and are entering the final year/semester of their program in fall 2012. Each applicant needs to be involved in student professional organizations, demonstrate leadership qualities, serve as an ambassador of the college and the program, and exhibit a commitment to their profession.
Each applicant must receive two letters of recommendations (at least one must be from a member of the faculty) and complete a scholarship application by March 21. The scholarship recipient must attend the Donors and Scholars Luncheon on May 16 and attend one meeting of the Board of Visitors, either July 18 or Oct. 24.
Applications Process
Applications can be found online and are to be completed and submitted to Heather Sandlin in the Dean's Administrative Suite on the 2nd floor of the EACPHS building, Kathy Kath at Henry Ford Hospital or to Akweli Claver or Anita Knight in the Main Office (Room 114) of the Mortuary Science Building no later than March 21. Applications will be reviewed by the program and the applications of the top candidates chosen from each program will be forwarded for final selection.
The recipient of the first Board of Visitors Annual Scholarship will be selected by the end of April. The official presentation of the scholarship will be made at the annual Donors and Scholars Awards and Luncheon on May 16.
