Faculty Member Recognized as AAPA Distingushed Fellow
John McGinnity, associate professor in Physician Assistant Studies at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wayne State University, has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). McGinnity also is a practicing physician assistant (PA) at the Downriver Cardiology Consultants, PC, Trenton, MI.
He earned the AAPA recognition as a Distinguished Fellow for his outstanding contributions to patient care and the profession during his 15 years as a physician assistant and educator. McGinnity has contributed to numerous professional publications on management of coronary syndromes and cardiovascular disease. He is currently president of the Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants and the chair of the Conference Education Planning Committee for the AAPA.
Licensed by the State of Michigan, McGinnity received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, and his Master of Science from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Physician assistants are licensed health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery and prescribe medications.
