Home Visit Porgram Needs Older Adult Volunteers
Students in pharmacy, social work, and medicine of Wayne State University (WSU) are seeking older adult volunteers to participate in a health care learning experience. The Older Adult Home Visit Program is intended to help students improve their knowledge on aging, health and skills related to older adult health care.
Students will meet with adults 65 and older living independently in the community November through December and/or January through February. Students will meet older adult volunteers at a location of their choice, such as home, apartment, church, restaurant or a community center.
A follow up meeting, which is optional, will be held in March or April at Wayne State University or at an older adult's residential facility. WSU faculty will meet with older adult volunteers to gather feedback on the experience with the health care students.
Older adults, who are 65 years of age or older, interested in volunteering for this program or need additional information, can call 313-577-8214 or e-mail: Geralynn B. Smith, MS, at gbs@wayne.edu or Jenny Mendez, PhD, at jmendez@med.wayne.edu. Applications need to be received by Oct. 25.
The students are from the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the School of Social Work, and the School of Medicine at Wayne State University.
