Michigan Pharmacists Association recognizes faculty and alumni

During its annual Convention and Exposition, Detroit, the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) recognized several MPA members with connections to the pharmacy program in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Honored Feb. 25 at an awards ceremony and banquet were:

  • Jesse Vivian, professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, was inducted into the Pharmacy Hall of Honor. The honor recognizes volunteer leadership in service to the association through participating on committees and in designated association programs.
  • Gregory Baise ('78), pharmacist at Knight Drugs, Detroit, was honored with the Bowl of Hygeia Award. He was recognized for his outstanding professional contributions and participation in community and/or governmental activities that reflect well on the pharmacy profession.
  • Martin Barr, a former dean of the college from 1982-87, received Years of Membership award for his 50 years of service to the MPA.
  • Maria C. Young, pharmacist/owner/president of University Pharmacy on the WSU campus, was awarded the Fred W. Arnold Public Relations Award. She serves as a preceptor in Pharmacy Practice. She received the award for outstanding achievement and dedication to the pharmacy profession through community education and awareness.
  • Serving on the 2012 MPA executive board are alumni Edward G. Szandzik ('80), president; and executive board members Rodney D. Sharp ('82); Paul C. Walker ('80,'82) and Sandra C. Taylor ('81).
