Mortuary Science students are finalists for national scholarships

Mortuary Science students Alyse Bollheimer and Ben Capaul are finalists in the Service Corporation International (SCI) national scholarship program. The students are among 30 finalists from a pool of 131 to be invited to participate in the final interviews March13-15 in Houston. The interviews will determine whether Bollheimer and Capaul receive $3,000 or $500 scholarships.

"This is great news," said David Ladd, program director for Mortuary Science, Department of Fundamental and Applied Sciences, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. "We are sending outstanding students to Houston."

All travel arrangements and expenses are provided by SCI, a provider of funeral cremation and cemetery services. Bollheimer and Capaul will meet with advisory members and company leaders who will evaluate candidates and allocate the awards. To be considered for the scholarship program, the students were required to submit a written essay and video expressing their personal views on a number of topics relating to the funeral industry.
