OEHS Professor Awarded 'Fellow'
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) awarded Cynthia Ostrowski, assistant professor, "Fellow" status at its national conference and exposition held in Portland, OR, in May. She is a faculty member of the Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences (OEHS) in the College's Department of Health Sciences.
AIHA limits the "Fellow" classification to no more than five percent of its membership. It recognizes achievement in the field of industrial hygiene, either through research, leadership, publications, education or service to AIHA. Ostrowski's classification brings the total "Fellows" in the OEHS fractional, part-time and adjunct faculty to eight, (44 percent).
"The OEHS faculty are very pleased that Cindy was recognized by AIHA for this well deserved honor," said Edward Kerfoot. program director.
Ostrowski is a certified industrial hygienist with 24 years experience in the field. She established her own consulting firm, CAO Consulting, LLC in Rochester Hills, MI in 2005. An alumna of Wayne State University, she earned a Master of Science degree in Occupational and Environmental Health in 1988 and Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology in 1983.
Former Gov. John Engler appointed Ostrowski to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) board on which she served for twelve years. She currently serves on the MIOSHA Advisory Committee to update the Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) of airborne contaminants in general industry and construction, and as chair for the Industrial Hygiene Division, Michigan Safety Conference. She has served as a Board Member and Secretary for AIHA. Ostrowski was honored as a WSU Distinguished Alum in 2004.
