Pharmacy Alumni Board seeking nominations for its Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award

The Pharmacy Alumni Board is seeking nominations for its Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award, which is a means to recognize pharmacy alumni of the Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS) for outstanding professional and personal achievements. Individuals who want to nominate someone must complete the nomination form by Friday, January 22, 2016.

The selected honoree must be available to accept the award in person during the WSU Pharmacy Alumni Reception, which is scheduled to take place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016, during the Michigan Pharmacists Association's (MPA) Annual Convention and Exposition. The event will be held at 42 Degrees North Restaurant in Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center, located at 400 Renaissance Drive, in downtown Detroit. Travel expenses will be included for out of state honorees.

In addition, the award recipient will be expected to serve on the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award committee for one year, deliver the keynote address on Senior Assessment Day, and attend the WSU Alumni Reception during the MPA Convention.

Eligibility

Individuals should be active or retired pharmacists who are graduate of the WSU College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. They must not have received the Distinguished Alumni Award within the last 10 years.

Selection

The selection committee consists of six pharmacists - two WSU Pharmacy Alumni Board members, two Pharmacy faculty, two pharmacists affiliated with the program - who will review applications and select an honoree.

Selection Criteria

The factors below will be considered in selecting someone to receive the Distinguished Pharmacy Alumni Award. This is not intended to be an inclusive or exclusive list of attributes.

  • Professional accomplishments
  • Contributions to pharmacy/medical literature
  • Innovative programs or approaches to problem solving within their chosen practice setting
  • Professional awards received (regional/state/national)
  • Formal awards or recognition received from the community or related associations they serve
  • Board certification/s by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for their respective field, if applicable
  • Personal involvement
  • Participation, but not sole professional responsibility, in college undergraduate/graduate curriculum
  • Participation in education and training of pharmacy students, technicians, residents and/or fellows
  • The provision of continuing education lectures, seminars, etc., to pharmacists or other healthcare professionals
  • Active in elected post/s or committees of professional organizations and/or WSU alumni association (current or past)
  • Personally and/or financially supported WSU activities
  • Community service via municipal, state, or national government posts and assignments. (e.g., vaccination programs, emergency preparedness, Board of Pharmacy, etc.)
