PT Professor Awarded Young Investigator Grant

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has selected Moh H. Malek, PhD, to receive a 2011 NSCA Foundation Young Investigator Grant of $15,000. The associate professor in Physical Therapy and director of the Integrative Physiology of Exercise Laboratory in the Department of Health Care Sciences will be acknowledged at the NSCA Awards Banquet on July 8 during the National Conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Malek's lines of research include assessment of neuromuscular response using noninvasive methodology, skeletal muscule capillarity, gas exchange parameters in healthy and clinical populations as well as issues related to research methodology and statistical analyses.
In 2010, he was awarded the Terry J. Housh Young Investigator of the Year by the NSCA and the Visiting Scholar Award from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to travel to Europe and conduct research in angiogenesis.

An ACSM Fellow, Malek has more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and has published papers in CHEST, one of the most influential journals in medicine. More recently, he is the lead-author of an advanced statistic textbook and co-editor of an exercise physiology textbook, both due to be published in 2012.
