Radiologic technology graduates earn 100% first time, certification pass rate for 12 years
The 15 members of the Class of 2012 from the Radiologic Technology program, Wayne State University, have all passed, on the first attempt, the professional certification examination, administered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), to become registered technologists. This is the 12th consecutive year that the program has experienced a first time pass rate of 100 percent, said Kathy Kath, director of the program.
The bachelor of science in radiologic technology is a partnership program between Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital. Begun in the fall of 2006, it is the only baccalaureate degree program in Michigan. The program is part of the Department of Health Care Sciences in the WSU Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
"Although our pass rate contributes to a wonderful and rich reputation, we would rather our success be realized in the eyes of the patients, whose live we've made better by our care and service to them. Then, we know as educators we have truly done our jobs," said Kath, who has served as director of the program since 1986 when it was a certificate program at Henry Ford Hospital.
The ARRT describes itself as the world's largest credentialing organization that seeks to ensure high quality patient care in medical imaging, interventional procedures, and radiation therapy. It tests and certifies technologists and administers continuing education and ethics requirements for their annual registration.
The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, one of the founding colleges of Wayne State University, is committed to advancing the health and well-being of society through the preparation of highly skilled health care practitioners, and through research to improve health care practices and treatment from the urban to the global arena.
