Radiologist Assistant Studies graduates first student
Rebecca Prokop earned her master of science in Radiologist Assistant Studies program in early May, becoming the first student to graduate from the program. She is scheduled to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) boards in June.
Under the direction of Kathy Kath, MS, the two-year program is a joint training program between Wayne State and Henry Ford Hospital. It is one of only 12 programs recognized nationally by the ARRT.
"The staff radiologists and I are proud of her accomplishment, which included performing more than 375 procedures," said Kath. "This is a very demanding program."
Prokop's first year, explained Kath, was primarily spent in taking courses with Physician Assistant Studies students in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The RAS program also is within the college.
"The last year of her studies focused on procedures that were completed at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Henry Ford W. Bloomfield Hospital, and t Henry Ford Medical Center - Fairlane, Dearborn, MI."
Earlier this year, the ARRT awarded initial recognition to the RAS program. This means that graduates of the Wayne State program will have met the educational eligibility requirements for certification as registered radiologist assistants.
The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, one of the founding colleges of Wayne State University, is committed to advancing the health and well-being of society through the preparation of highly skilled health care practitioners, and through research to improve health care practices and treatment from urban to global levels.
Wayne State University is a premier urban research institution offering more than 400 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to nearly 32,000 students.
