Samantha Langell earns Lambda Kappa Sigma grant and scholarship

Wayne State PharmD student Samantha LangellLambda Kappa Sigma President Samantha Langell (P3) was selected to receive both the Cora E. Craven Educational Grant of $1,000 from the national Lambda Kappa Sigma fraternity and the 2020 LKS Omicron Alumni Scholarship of $500.

The LKS Trust Liaison Committee offered 10 educational grants this year to PharmD students who rank in the upper half of their class academically and met additional requirements. Meanwhile, for more than 50 years, the LKS Omicron alumni chapter has awarded its scholarship to a member of LKS Omicron Collegiate Chapter who demonstrates service and leadership within LKS, as well as academic achievement, community service involvement and participation in extracurricular activities.

Langell is a PharmD candidate in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Class of 2021. In addition to serving as president of LKS and as treasurer of her class executive board, she is a member of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists and the Michigan Pharmacists Association. Langell is an active volunteer on campus and has been a pharmacy intern at Collie Drugs in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, since 2017.

Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice and LKS Omnicron Alumni President Brittany Stewart said Langell was selected because of her "outstanding evidence of leadership, professional accomplishments, and contributions to Lambda Kappa Sigma, APhA-ASP and her class executive board, as well as community service, research and the profession of pharmacy."

Langell said, "I am very grateful to be awarded an Education Grant from the National Organization and the Omicron Alumni Chapter. I am very thankful to those who assisted me with the application process and submitted letters of recommendation. These grants will be helpful in my studies as I transition from didactic classwork to my APPE rotations."
