Seven Alumni Honored for Distinguished Service

The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS), Wayne State University (WSU), honored seven alumni for outstanding contributions to their health science professions.

Receiving Distinguished Alumni awards on Thursday (Sept. 11) were Ronald S. Coleman (Pharmacy '68), public health pharmacy administrator for the Department of Health Pharmacy, City of Detroit; Kimberly S. Hurst (Physician Assistant Studies '01), physician assistant in Emergency Medicine at St. John Hospital and Health Center, Detroit, and contingent at Beaumont Hospital-Troy; Arnie H. Kander (Physicial Therapy '87), strength and conditioning coach for the Detroit Pistons; Gene X. Kortsha (Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences '70), retired corporate director of industrial hygiene, General Motors Corporation; Thomas Lynch (Mortuary Science '73), author and funeral director of Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors; and Pamela K. Poteete, (Occupational Therapy '96), supervisor for Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy Department, William Beaumont Hospital-Troy.

Honored posthumously was Kathryn M. Beattie (Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS)/Medical Technology '43) who retired in 1988 as director of the reference laboratory and education for the Southeastern Michigan region of the American Red Cross Blood Services. The Kathryn M. Beattie CLS Endowed Scholarship was established through a bequest from the estate of Beattie, who died in February 2007.
