Smith Honored for Contributions

The Wayne County Pharmacists Association (WCPA) honored Geralynn B. Smith, assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, with this year's John H. Webster Award for exemplary contributions to the profession of pharmacy. She accepted the honor at the organization's annual Awards and Installation Banquet on Jan. 21.

Smith serves as director for the College's Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) Experiential Education Programs. She works with second-year student pharmacists in community service projects, such as the Cabrini Clinic and Fighting Aids With Nutrition (FAWN).

In receiving the John H. Webster Award, Smith said that she was overwhelmed and humbled. "To be recognized for doing what you love is very rewarding." Smith also acknowledged and thanked the members of WCPA for being role models for the WSU student pharmacists. She said, "They hear your passion for the profession when they come to your meetings; they see you volunteer and support Cabrini; and they witness your support of community service projects, like FAWN. You are the ones who should be recognized."
