Third-year pharmacy student Mehvish Khan wins FAWN Scholarship
Mehvish Khan, a third-year PharmD student, has been awarded the $500 Fighting AIDS with Nutrition (FAWN) Scholarship in Memory of Richard L. Slaughter by the FAWN Board of Trustees. She was chosen for the honor due to her commitment to providing nutritional support to those afflicted with HIV/AIDS and suffering from catastrophic illness both locally and worldwide, as well as her leadership to the Wayne State FAWN student chapter as immediate past president.
Under Khan's leadership, the FAWN student chapter provided programs on the role nutrition plays in the quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients, to residents of agencies such as Vista Maria, and to the community at health fairs. The FAWN student chapter under her guidance ran several fundraisers to support the purchase of nutritional supplements to be shipped worldwide.
"Khan is a true leader and dedicated to assisting those in need locally and worldwide," said Professor Emerita Geralynn B. Smith, FAWN Scholarship chair and liaison to the WSU FAWN chapter.
Khan will be awarded the scholarship at the FAWN Annual Meeting in January 2019.
