WSU IPhO invites PharmD students to Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship webinar

The Wayne State University chapter of the Industry Pharmacists Association (IPhO) is dedicated to preparing pharmacists interested in pursuing pharmaceutical industry-focused career opportunities. Through exclusive resources and educational events, IPhO student members have an excellent working knowledge of common industry pharmacist roles and key pharmaceutical industry driving forces, as well as an understanding of the skills and experiences necessary to become successful industry pharmacists.

In line with the mission of creating opportunities for members to network and exchange ideas with their industry pharmacist peers, WSU IPhO invites students to attend the upcoming Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship (RPIF) informational webinar taking place on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The session will feature fellows Dr. Crystal Lee and Dr. Michelle Segovia with Pfizer Global Medical Affairs. Because of its close proximity to and long-lasting partnerships with the nation's leading drug manufacturers, the RPIF program is uniquely capable of providing its students and fellows with exposure to the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.

"As the new school year begins, it is important to engage our student pharmacists about roles pharmacists can take in the pharmaceutical industry," said Tommy Lucaj, research scholar at Gavande Drug Discovery Group and director of professional programming for WSU IPhO. "Our chapter is hosting this Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship virtual outreach event in an effort to educate and prepare our members through improving our CVs and increasing networking opportunities. The RPIF session is just one of many webinars we will hold throughout the year with fellows from various functional areas in addition to established industry pharmacists."

"Hearing about the Rutgers fellowship program for the first time got me more interested in the pharmaceutical industry than I could have imagined. The upcoming event will be a spectacular opportunity for anyone interested in the pharmaceutical industry," added Elizabeth Lemanske, WSU IPhO director of communications. "By partnering with over 20 pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, I know that it will be engaging to hear from current Rutgers fellows and learn about their process of getting into the program.

"A fellowship is something that I have considered after completing a residency. The career path that has particularly caught my eye is that of a medical science liaison. The position is enticing to me because it requires you to be continuously up-to-date with new scientific data and allows you to share that information with other health care professionals. I encourage my fellow PharmD students to learn more about industry pharmacy through the RPIF webinar and by joining our IPhO chapter."
