PHARMACY

Graduated in 1986

Q: Why did you choose Wayne State University?

A: I grew up in Warren, so Wayne State was close to home and affordable.

Q: Who inspired you to pursue Pharmacy?

A: Several high school teachers and my parent's pharmacist.

Q: Who was your most memorable Professor?

A: Hanley Abramson. He always showed compassion and concern for the betterment of the student.

Tied with Randy Commissaris whose door was always open to any and all students for school and/or personal issues

Q: Share some reflections about your time at Wayne State:

A: It was a stepping stone in my growth that allowed me to experience life in the real world. No dorms, no nonsense.

Q: In your opinion, what is one of the biggest changes that has occurred in your profession since graduating?

A: Third-party insurance reimbursement leading to decreased patient care services.

On the positive side pharmacists are now viewed as members of the health care team providing immunizations, testing and coordination of care with others in healthcare.

Q: Share a career highlight or summary:

A: I have been very fortunate to have many mentors throughout my career-beginning with the pharmacy school experience.

In addition to being one of the first Community Pharmacy Residents in the nation, I also was fortunate to have the exposure to Eugene Applebaum and the management team at Arbor Drugs. In my 13 years at the corporation, I not only interacted with thousands of student pharmacists, technicians and pharmacists, I was also exposed to the business aspects of corporate management.

Post-Arbor career highlight-teaching at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and being part of the team that mentored and trained the future generation of pharmacists.
